How it works
Counts spoken words
Words are counted the same way the teleprompter counts them. Speaker notes and Markdown symbols are left out.
Divides by your pace
Speaking time is the word count divided by words per minute. Pick a preset or enter your own pace.
Then read it on camera
Open your script in the free teleprompter. It follows your voice as you read.
Questions, answered.
How many words is a 5-minute speech?
About 650 to 750 words at a typical presentation pace of 130–150 words per minute.
How many words is a 2-minute speech?
About 260 to 300 words at 130–150 words per minute.
How many words is a 10-minute speech?
About 1,300 to 1,500 words at 130–150 words per minute.
How fast do people speak?
A common rule of thumb is 130–150 words per minute for presentations and videos, a little slower for formal speeches, and faster in casual conversation. Time yourself reading a paragraph aloud to find your own pace.
Does it count speaker notes?
No. Like the teleprompter, it skips speaker notes written as <!-- note: … --> and Markdown symbols, and counts only the words you read aloud.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Your text is only saved if you choose to open it in the teleprompter, and then only in this browser.
